2021 John Anthony Crane Vineyard Merlot
Covering a mere four-acres in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, Crane Vineyard was the first vineyard John leased and planted. Crafted from the mature and robust Merlot vines planted by John in 1996, the 2021 vintage displays the distinctive character of this Oak Knoll District estate. A dark ruby hue in the glass sets the tone for an aromatic bouquet of black and blue berries with ripe plums and floral notes of rose and lavender. Flavors of fresh boysenberry cobbler are complemented with hints of rich mocha and coffee bean. This 2021 vintage is characterized by a structured core with soft edges and focused acidity. Unfolds beautifully with decanting, revealing the wine’s complexity. Aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak. Less than 100 cases available.
Vintage Notes: A dry growing season in 2021 brought lower yields, early ripening, and excellent fruit concentration to Napa Valley. The excellence of the vintage is evident in the Crane Vineyard Merlot, marked by distinctive structure and rich flavor concentration.
