John Anthony Vineyards

Coombsville Vineyard is a small four-acre estate that yields bold and expressive fruit. Head-trained, spur-pruned, and dry-farmed, the vines produce a limited amount of fruit with exceptional quality–a true standout in our exclusive single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon collection. Deep, ruby-purple hues in the glass anticipate aromas of black cherry, lavender, and graphite. On the palate find notes of fresh blackberries, sweet pine, and dried herbs. This Cabernet Sauvignon envelopes the palate like a skilled boxer while possessing the poise and grace of a ballerina. Aged for 28 months in 80% new French oak barrels. Only 200 cases produced.

"The Coombsville Vineyard is one of our most intriguing vineyards. Dry farmed. Head trained. Four acres. Black cherry, raspberry jam and blood orange scents with sweet lavender, sage and exotic spices. The flavors are explosive. A dense core of dark berries and plums wrapped in grilled herbs, bittersweet dark chocolate, sweet tobacco and tanned leather. The finish is nearly undending and unfolds with great symmetry in its tannin and acid, fruit and spice."

"Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville offers up crushed red and black plums, blackberries and wild blueberries notes over a core of crushed rocks, rare beef and yeast extract plus a hint of cigar box. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly knit with firm, fine-grained tannins and wonderful delineation on the long, spicy finish."

"Aromas of sweet oak, menthol and blueberries attract your attention immediately and lead into bordeauxesque earthy tones, typical of the cool Coombsville sub-appellation. Intense forest floor and pine intertwine with dark ripe fruit and toasty barrel notes. The flavors on the palate follow the aromatic profile perfectly with sweet fruit, black cherry and blueberry commingling with rich earth and barrel spice.
