2023 John Anthony Church Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes: "This 2023 vintage is a traditional, barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc sourced from our estate Church Vineyard, nestled in Los Carneros AVA. A smooth, medium honey hue anticipates aromas of dried papaya and candied pineapple, followed by hints of cherimoya. A layered palate unfolds with precision, revealing notes of mango, blood orange pith, and fresh cut white flowers. Lively acidity evolves into a lasting finish. Crafted from a blend of Musqué (71%) and Western (29%) clones, barrel fermented and aged in 25% new French oak barrels for enhanced dimension and complexity. Only 200 cases produced."
Vintage Notes: Described as “a vintage for the ages”, the 2023 growing season surpassed all expectations. Early record winter rainfall set a perfect foundation, followed by a moderately warm spring which contributed to a later bud break, resulting in a slow ripening curve. Summer heat spikes guided cluster development on track and ensured optimal conditions for a later harvest with unparalleled grape quality and complexity.
