Crafted from the mature and robust Merlot vines planted by John in 1996, the 2021 vintage displays the distinctive character of this Oak Knoll District estate. A dark ruby hue in the glass sets the tone for an aromatic bouquet of black and blue berries with ripe plums and floral notes of rose and lavender. Flavors of fresh boysenberry cobbler are complemented with hints of rich mocha and coffee bean. This 2021 vintage is characterized by a structured core with soft edges and focused acidity. The John Anthony Reserve Merlot is selected from the best barrels of the vintage. Sourced from Crane Vineyard, this estate was the first vineyard John planted in 1996. Deep ruby-purple tones in the glass with aromas of pluots, apriums, fragrant rose petals, and tarragon. The palate is vibrant with red plum, huckleberry, and macerated strawberries.
