We will provide food pairings from Michelin rated Bib Gourmand restaurant Oenotri. Michele and I are especially excited to open our personal cellar during the party to share library offerings of the Coombsville and Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignons dating back to their first vintages!
"John Anthony’s delicious 2015 Sauvignon Blanc from Napa offers plenty of melony fruit, a touch of caramelized grapefruit and floral notes, medium body, an attractive texture almost resembling a Chardonnay, and a dry, crisp, zesty finish. This is impressive Sauvignon Blanc to drink over the next 2-3 years."
"John Anthony Vineyards has produced a beautiful 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of plum, blueberry, black raspberry and the telltale blackcurrant. The wine exhibits a gentle and judicious use of oak, medium to full body, a lush suppleness, and a deep ruby/purple color. This is impeccably made, well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with elegance yet authority. Drink it over the next 12-15 years"
"Our inaugural release of sparkling wine made entirely from Pinot Noir. A delicate peach and rose petal color with a heady bouquet of rhubarb and orchard fruit that is complemented by dried floral notes and sweet baking spices. The wine is bright and energetic upon entry with white raspberry, blood orange and stone fruit flavors that confirm the resulting complexity from additional time on the skins. Ginger, cardamom and beurre Suzette offer a dry finality to the initial fruitiness. A luxurious texture is balanced by a lively finish that invites you to return for another sip."
"The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Church Vineyard is sensational. Notes of lemon blossom, ripe melon, and honeyed grapefruit are followed by a medium-bodied, richly concentrated, dry, mineral-laced Sauvignon Blanc that has a long finish and terrific zest. This is as good as this variety can often get in Napa. Drink it over the next several years."
"A serious and compelling Chardonnay, the 2014 displays good crushed rock minerality, some delicate honeysuckle and poached pear along with some tangerine oil and apple blossom. It is medium to full-bodied and has a light greenish/gold color as well as a rich, layered finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years."
Dark, inky tones of blueberries and blackberries greet you in the glass. The first sip reveals a powerful, fruit-focused Cabernet that celebrates the intensity of Coombsville—the newest of Napa Valley’s AVAs. Our second vintage from this beautiful property balances blue and black fruit concentration with earthy, Bordeaux-like undertones and structured tannins. Soft hints of vanilla emerge from 22 months of aging in a blend of new French and new American oak.
Powerfully balmy sweet black cherry and blueberry confirm the big structure and flavor profiles of the 2013 vintage. Wisps of sautéed bacon, sage and rosemary intermingle to balance the sweet gummy fruit with a savory complexity. On the palate this is an ample and assertive wine with rich viscosity and bracing tannins. Black and blue berries persist with concentration. Smoked game meat and dried Herbs de Provence linger as the fruit focus has broadened. The nearly twenty-year-old vines have pronounced the character of age. This is a wine of gravitas.
2012 John Anthony Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon 750 mL
"Stunning garnet in the glass, our 2012 John Anthony Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is our tenth harvest from these distinctive Oak Knoll vines. Deep, dark red fruit on the nose opens into layers of blackberries on the palate, with complex notes of heather and anise complementing the rich, full body. Aged 30 months on 100% new French oak, this Cabernet has beautifully integrated tannins that carry the wine through an enduring, memorable finish."
