John recalls looking out at the empty church property next to his parents' vineyards in the Los Carneros AVA and dreaming that one day he would grow grapes there. In 2003, he founded Church Vineyard and planted it to Sauvignon Blanc. The Los Carneros AVA has a distinctly maritime climate, with winds from the San Pablo Bay and shallow clay and loam soils well-suited to Bordeaux varietals. This idyllic vineyard has proven its quality with every vintage. Comprising two acres of the Western clone, prized for its high-toned and aromatic qualities, and an additional two acres of the richly-bodied Musqué clone, John acquired the property in 2018 to cultivate two distinct styles of Sauvignon Blanc, further enhancing the vineyard's versatility and allure.
