Crafted from mature Merlot vines from the Oak Knoll District in Napa Valley, the 2023 John Anthony Crane Vineyard Merlot shows a deep ruby-garnet in the glass, hinting at its richness and depth. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and ripe plum rise from the glass, layered with delicate floral and herbal notes and a hint of mocha. The palate is concentrated and juicy, revealing lush flavors of boysenberry and black cherry compote complemented by rich mocha, espresso bean, and spice. Silky, well integrated tannins and vibrant acidity provide beautiful structure and balance, carrying through to a long, graceful finish.

The 2023 vintage was exceptional for Merlot, shaped by a long, temperate growing season and cool, steady conditions that allowed for extended hang time and optimal ripeness of this early-ripening varietal. The even pacing of the season preserved Merlot’s natural plushness and aromatic expression while enhancing depth and concentration. The resulting fruit offers generous dark berry character, supple texture, and refined structure—hallmarks of beautifully balanced Napa Valley Merlot.
